SPECIES NAME:
Cercophora solaris (Cooke & Ellis) Sacc.
COLLECTION DATA:
AC-2441, Collected Sept 4 and 10, 2020. on fallen Populus sp log extensive colony on wounded area (decorticated) and spreading onto bark. Sept 4 and Sept 10/2020.
SPECIES DESCRIPTION:
Black velvety colony, predominantly anamorph (Mammaria echinobotryoides), a few scattered ascomata buried deep in hyphal mat (teleomorph). Anamorph – conidia do not disperse easily in water, 13-15×5-6µm, navicular with a germ slit. Teleomorph – ascomata immersed in dense hyphal mat with anamorph, ascospores hyaline and 1-2 septate from which phialides develop and small spherical conidia, ascospores slightly bent, with phialides 25×5-6µm, short gel pad at base of some ascospores.
The anamorph grows well in culture on DPYA but no teleomorph was observed. Dried culture plates and field specimens are deposited in the NB Museum.
Based on Mycoportal the anamorph has been collected frequently but the teleomorph only from New Zealand, US and Argentina.
